The Salt Spring Island Natural Cemetery is Canada's first stand-alone, open to the public, Conservation Green Burial Cemetery. Small graveyards are set amongst stands of Douglas Fir, Big Leaf Maple and Western Red Cedar trees. We use natural stone memorials and abide by the Green Burial standards and ethics. The Cemetery shares the land with a thriving family farm in the beautiful Burgoyne Valley in the south end of Salt Spring Island.

The District of Kent has two municipal cemeteries. Valley View Cemetery offers a range of in ground cremation and burial plots as well as above ground columbaria niches and a scatter garden. The historic Kent Municipal Cemetery, located on Limbert Mountain, is no longer open for burials. The District has formed a committee to consider restoration projects for this cemetery. 


Cumberland cemetery is a unique place. It is a historic cemetery, established in 1895, and the resting place of generations of Cumberlanders. The landscape is rolling and dry, the ground covered with moss and kinnikinnick. The cemetery features:traditional family ground lots accommodating one full burial and four cremated remains in contemporary sections of the cemetery as well as in historic sections of the cemeterya natural burial area with lots accommodating a full burial and a cremation burial; and small lots along the tree line accommodating two cremation burialsa columbaria niche ...
